Policy
Anti-Fraud & Anti-Corruption
Every naira and every dollar entrusted to the IJIDI Foundation must reach the purpose it was given for. We have zero tolerance of fraud, bribery and corruption, and we will act on every credible report.
1. What is prohibited
- Fraud: deception for gain, including false claims, invoices, receipts or reports, and theft of funds or assets.
- Bribery: offering, giving, requesting or accepting anything of value to influence a decision. This includes facilitation payments to speed up routine services.
- Corruption: abuse of entrusted position or power for private gain.
- Money laundering and terrorist financing: handling the proceeds of crime, or providing funds or support to individuals or groups on sanctions lists.
- Misreporting results: inflating, inventing or hiding programme results.
2. Conflicts of interest
Trustees, staff and volunteers declare any personal, family or business interest that could affect, or appear to affect, their decisions. They take no part in decisions where they have a conflict. Declarations are recorded.
3. Gifts and hospitality
Modest, occasional gifts or hospitality may be accepted only if they could not be seen to influence a decision, and must be declared. Cash or cash-equivalent gifts are never accepted. Nothing is ever accepted from people receiving our support.
4. Financial controls
- All funds go into, and all payments come from, bank accounts in the Foundation's own registered name — never personal accounts.
- Payments need two authorisations, and the person requesting a payment does not approve it.
- Every expense is supported by receipts or invoices and recorded promptly.
- Cash is avoided wherever possible; where it is unavoidable it is documented and reconciled.
- Accounts are audited independently once the Foundation completes its first financial year.
5. Partners, suppliers and sanctions screening
Before working with a partner or supplier we check who they are, and screen them against the UN Security Council Consolidated List and applicable Nigerian sanctions lists. We comply with the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 and the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022. Partnership agreements include anti-fraud, anti-corruption and audit clauses.
6. Reporting and response
Report suspected fraud or corruption through our complaints and whistleblowing channels. Reports are investigated independently and confidentially. Where fraud is proven we seek to recover losses, take disciplinary or contractual action, inform affected donors, and refer the matter to the relevant authorities.
